Parasite: MoreResultsThis record last updated Tue Sep 20 2005 00:34:15 PLEASE NOTE: Due to the overwhelming extent of this problem and the unbelievable volume of email we have received, we regret that we cannot respond to questions about browser parasites at this time. If you have attempted to contact us about this parasite please accept our apology for not responding. "Thank you's" are always appreciated ;-) DescriptionMoreResults is an IE sidebar that opens when search engines are used. DistributionSilently installed by the FavoriteMan parasite. What it doesAdvertisingYes. When a search is made at a targeted search engine, the sidebar opens and shows advertisements from the controlling server www.moreresults.net. At the time of writing these are sourced through findwhat.com. Privacy violationCurrently no. A cookie is set on search queries that cause the sidebar to operate, but at the time of writing this is a session cookie only so little usage tracking is possible. Security issuesNo. Stability problemsNone known. RemovalThe ‘Add/Remove Programs’ function in the Control Panel should have a ‘MoreResults’ entry which can remove the software (except for a harmless registry key, see below). Manual removalOpen the registry (click ‘Start’, choose ‘Run...’, enter ‘regedit’) and find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Select it, and delete the ‘MoreResults’ entry on the right. Open a DOS command prompt window (from the ‘Accessories’ submenu in ‘Programs’ on the Start menu) and enter the following commands: cd "%WinDir%\System" Restart the computer and you should be able to delete the MoreResults folder in Program Files. You can also remove the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\MoreResults to clean up, if you like. * Parasite information and detection script by Andrew Clover - www.doxdesk.com, used with permission.
